The whole class of 15 children went on a slow walk out beyond the “blue line”, in to unexplored territory. We were on a search for signs of Spring and anything else which caught the eye. We found all sorts of shoots, a shell with a plant growing from it, a broken egg, a bike frame, a motor bike chassis and interesting bits of moss and lichen. We practised using descriptive words...adjectives.
We tried a minutes silence, listening to the birds and the scurrying of a mammal somewhere close by. (The adjective for that was “ scary”.) We used our noses to smell spring, especially some sawdust, some leaves and other things.
Later we made a small camp, complete with fire. Whilst that was established, the boys made a den and the girls too. (The girls’ was alittle more sophisticated!) After marshmallows and biscuits, we packed up and went back to school. A happy session.
